Arizona’s Beerfluential: #2:

When looking at the stand out craft beer bars in Arizona, one that is always at the forefront is Flanny’s. They are constantly bringing in some great beer and hosting fantastic events. In fact, tonight (July 19th, 2012) there is a Four Peaks Tap Take-Over with 15 of the Tempe brewery’s beers that will be tapped. From Beer Trivia Night to Third Thursday Tap Take-Overs, Flanny’s has been serving up some great events for all the locals.

With that, we would like to congratulate John Flanagan (and his Father) earning the #2 spot on the Beerfluential Poll. Cheers!

The Brew Bros: How long have you been in the craft beer community?

John Flanagan:       I was introduced to craft beer about 4 years ago by a friend who was a homebrewer  and have been captivated by the flavors and creativity of craft beer ever since.

TBB:  What types of things do you do in the community?

JF:     As part of a family business that has a focus on craft beer, I have been fortunate enough to be able to buy all of the beer for Flannys and plan many events and tastings that allow people to learn more about just the beer. They are able to meet the brewers and are educated on new and exciting things that are not normally available in the state. Many of our craft beer events have also been able to benefit charities, schools and sports teams in the local area.

TBB: What do you feel is important for the state of Arizona to accomplish to gain an edge in craft beer?

JF:     Arizona has come a long way in the craft beer community over the past few years. As we continue to educate new people to craft beer and offer more and more choices Arizona is already making a name for itself as one of the top craft beer states.   There are so many great local and regional breweries that sell their beer here in Arizona, but most people are not exposed to them.

TBB:  Why do you feel like your peers have voted you into the Top 5?

JF:      When people come into Flanny’s they always are asking questions about the craft beers. My interest in craft beers has encouraged me to educate others on what they have been missing. When we plan events or look to order different beers I try to educate as many people as I can about those beers and expose them to different beer flavors and styles that they may not be used to.

TBB: If you could do anything to help craft beer in Arizona, what would it be?

JF:    Craft beer has grown so much over the past 1.5 years that Flanny’s has been in business.  I would like to continue to do everything I can to get more craft beer in front of more people and to showcase the wide portfolios of the many different breweries to our customers.

TBB: Who in Arizona influenced your craft beer passion?

JF :      I was introduced to craft beer by a friend who was a homebrewer. Through his passion for great beer and the influence of his homebrewing friends I was able to learn a lot about beer in short period of time. As I became more involved in the current Craft beer community, the passion I see from the brewers, the breweries and all the new customers willing to try it continues to fuel my passion.

Patrick Schroeder has two rules: 1) Drink beer good people brew. Craft brewers brew for the love of their craft so give every beer a try. B) Never drink the sediment cake. Other than that, Patrick spends his time home brewing, spending time with his family and tipping back a few pints with fellow beer lovers.
